PoliticsSri Lanka’s political system is run as a part of presidential representative democratic republic. Both the state and the government of Sri Lanka are headed by the President of the country. Multi party system prevails in this country. The Sri Lankan Freedom Party and the United National Party are 2 of the most important political parties in Sri Lanka. The political differences between the Tamils and the Sinhalese are reflected through the politics in Sri Lanka.
In Sri Lanka, at present the United National Party is the main opposition party. This party was founded by Don Stephen Senanayake on September 6, 1946. The Sri Lanka Freedom Party – another predominant party in the political scenario of Sri Lanka was found in 1951 by S.W.R.D Bandaranaike. In Sri Lanka, these two parties have been the dominant parties for decades. Forming coalition politics has become a general rule in Sri Lanka.
Some of the parliamentary parties in Sri Lanka are All Ceylon Tamil Congress, All Ceylon Muslim Congress, Eelam People’s Democratic Party, Eelam People’s Revolutionary Liberation Front, People’s United Front etc. Some of the registered parties in Sri Lanka are All are Citizens All are Kings Organization, Democratic People’s Liberation Front, Democratic Unity Alliance, National People’s Party.
