Nuwara Eliya

Nuwara EliyaNuwara Eliya is located in the heart of central highlands of Sri Lanka and is often referred as the “city of light”. It is situated at a distance of about 180 Km from the Colombo city. This spot is popular in Sri Lanka for tea production. Finest golf course of Asia is also located in this city. Nuwara Eliya was founded by Samuel Baker.
The altitude of the city of Nuwara Eliya is about 2000 meter. This hill resort is one of the finest tourist attractions in Sri Lanka. Generally, from March to May this spot is thronged with local tourists. Nuwara Eliya was termed as “Little England”. This place used to be a retreat for the European planters in Sri Lanka.
Tourists in Nuwara Eliya can indulge into a number of recreational activities like golfing, hiking, boating, horse riding etc. The Ramboda Falls, Devon Falls, Laksapana Falls are some of the most popular tourist spots near Nuwara Eliya. The lush green tea plantation fields are also major attractions to tourists.
Nuwara Eliya is mainly popular for acres of tea plantation. Sri Lanka is known as one of the largest tea exporters in the world and Nuwara Eliya is considered to be capital of the entire tea industry of this country.
